Recently I have been venturing into the unknown world of commercial photography and have been trying to sample the various types, from fashion to food, corporate to interior. The purpose was to see what I enjoy and what, if any, I am good at!
Last year I had the privilege of doing a photoshoot for freelance, Norfolk based chef, Alex Firman.
I have tasted Alex’s phenomenal food at many a wedding (the only chef who has cooked duck in such a way that I actually wanted seconds!), so jumped at the opportunity when he contacted me.
He wanted to update his old website and needed fresh and current images. So instead of using the standard (boring) backdrop of shooting on a white background, we opted to create a styled outdoor photoshoot, showcasing food in a natural environment.
Imagine a Sunday afternoon, a lovely table set up outside, all the family gathering for a meal. Think rustic, real food, not pretentious but beautifully presented – yum! (so much better than a plain white backdrop).
I am a firm believer in showcasing products (in this case food) in an environment that you would normally see it, or that adds to the product, making it look even more attractive. I like to call it Lifestyle commercial photography (although I’m not sure this is a real word?)
Alex has recently launched his website, and so I thought I would share some images, and also how it was incorporated into his website.
Alex wanted to make his website personal and stand out from the crowed, so we also took a series of shots , frame by frame, of him putting together a scrumptious meringue and topping it with berries. This was cleverly then put together in a slideshow format, creating the illusion of him building it while you watch!
